Loving God, serving others, welcoming all…Our mission is to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the wider world and to show our love for our neighbors.  We are a community of believers who welcome everyone into our fellowship, reaching out to all who desire to receive the grace of God.  We are a vital part of the community in which we are located, extending help to all who need it.  We stand as witnesses to the inclusivity and infinite love of God.

We envision a world in which every person is valued and has the opportunity to worship and grow as he/she sees fit.  We work toward a society which does not recognize the artificial categories used to divide us – those of race, age, gender expression and identity, marital status, physical and mental ability, political persuasion and economic status.  We celebrate the full range of Christian theology, welcoming all perspectives on the expression of Jesus Christ, his redemptive power, and his church.  Our vision is of a just world which looks to God for direction in all things, enabling humankind to reach the full achievement of its innate potential.

We are an active, vibrant United Church of Christ community.  We welcome all to our service of worship and into the full life and leadership of the church regardless of race, ethnic background, age,  gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, social or economic situation, marital or family status, biblical interpretation or political persuasion.  We celebrate that we are all God’s beloved children with need of God’s grace, and with gifts to share for the just and peaceable reign God intends.  We believe in living out our faith and ministry by loving, giving and serving each other and the world and by being a place for everyone to meet God no matter who we are or where we are on life’s journey.

In 1864, St. Paul Evangelical Church was organized in what is now Warren, MIOur present sanctuary was built in 1894 and reportedly the cornerstone contains a German Bible with the names of the congregation and trustees. In 1921, lightning struck the steeple and the tallest portion was removed. In 1957 the Evangelical Reformed and Congregational Christian churches merged to become the United Church of Christ.  St. Paul, originally an Evangelical Reformed Church, voted to remain part of the new denomination. In 1957, Christian Education Classrooms and the Fellowship Hall were added.

Originally established as a mission outreach by a church in Detroit, over the years St. Paul has grown into an integral part of its local community.  Outreach efforts at first focused on the local German population, with services conducted at least partly in German until the early 1920s. From that beginning, the church expanded its efforts to bring the good news of Jesus to the wider community.  Outreach efforts have included multiple mission trips by church members to the Lakota Sioux reservation in South Dakota, contributions to and participation in a mission in Biloxi, Mississippi, and support of groups serving the local indigenous population, women who have been the victims of trafficking, and individuals who are addicted.  For years, the church served as a warming center for the homeless during the winter and still provides support to this initiative.  A free monthly community supper reached out to local residents. Volunteers have staffed an outreach effort at Ferndale Pride.  Fish dinners and an annual rummage sale have connected the church to those living nearby.
